Taster Lessons
You can book a taster lesson for the:
- Guitar – electric, bass, acoustic or classical. 12 strings or 6.
- Mandolin
- Lute
- Ukulele
- Banjo – tenor, zither and G.
What is the objective of the Taster Lesson.
There are five main objectives to start you on your musical journey.
Instrument Health Check
- Ensuring you have the best start means making sure the instrument you are using is set up properly. Are the strings okay and suitable for what you want to play? If not that can be easily sorted out.
- Over the years I have set up and re-strung hundreds of instruments. For example, a badly set up guitar will hinder progress and old strings will just sound horrible and make it even harder to play.
Careful preparation for your musical journey is essential.
Listening To Your Requirements
- If you are a beginner then that is simple – I will get you playing!
- Intermediate and advanced players may simply have hit a musical brick wall and just need fresh and challenging new material.
- Teach Guitar Preston has an abundance of fantastic books collected over 40 years. Many are now out of print so there is no shortage of great material covering every genre to draw from.
Knowing your requirements is essential to planning your lessons.
What Genre ?
- Pick your direction by selecting music within certain genres to direct you lessons towards your goals.
- Some students just want to focus on a certain genre of music e.g Blues or rock.
I tailor every single lesson to a specific requirement because everyone is different and so are the goals.
Commitment
- The guitar is a difficult instrument to learn properly and also an easily one to develop and fall into bad habits.
- Careful lesson preparation and a clear practise template is in place for every lesson.
Enjoyment
I ensure every student enjoys learning the guitar. Whilst the guitar is difficult to learn you need to have fun learning. I’m very patient and the atmosphere at Teach Guitar Preston is very relaxed. Patience not Pressure!

It’s easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself.” – Johann Sebastian Bach
